Removing emblem glue? (1 Viewer)

The LC emblem broke off my tailgate. There is a very thick puddy like sticky crap left behind. I have not found anything that will clean it off. I have tried 3m adheasive remover and a razor blade. No love.

How the heck do I get the goop off without damaging the paint?

I've had luck heating it up with a hairdryer to get the old glue to come off. Acetone afterwards can help with the cleanup. Be careful - the acetone is extremely flammable.

Dry ice, get it hard and brittle then chip it away.

I just did it this last weekend...

Get some "Goo Gone" (Amazon.com: Goo Gone, 8 Oz.: Kitchen & Dining) and a bone tool (used for removing interior parts without damage - got mine from IPD many moons ago - Bone Tool). Squirt the Goo Gone liberally onto the adhesive, and then use the bone tool to scrape it off.

You can use WD-40 and your bare hands/fingernails too, but it is a pain that way.

Goo-gone works home depot has it, wallmart does too. Might try the windex WITH Amonia it ate through the old window tint.

Goo-Gone is probably about the only way, any other thinner or remover will be too strong for the paint.

I know the car brite stuff works I have used it at a dearlership when I worked there a couple summers as a detailer, but probably can't get it very easily.

This tool is the only thing I found that worked to get mine off..
Did a good job... ran it off a pneumatic die grinder.



I tried Goo Gone, Goof Off, lacquer thinner, acetone.... and rubbed the skin off my fingers.....none of these worked well for me

Just took off my Landcruiser tailgate badge last week. I used 3M adhesive remover. Get some sort of plastic handle so you can spray it and use some muscle to scrape it off. Took me awhile but not too long... just soak that 3M on there!
