Does anyone have instructions on how to remove the window glass in a 76 FJ40? Window glass in the doors that is.

Remove the accesories on the inner door panel, door strap, door handle cup, and window crank (there is a little wire C clip between the window crank and door panel, should be able to pull it out with a needle nose pliers).

Inner door panel should pop off, pretty much pull it straight towards you. There should be plastic glued around the door underneath the inner door panel. Neatly peel it downward if you want to try to re-use it, rip it off if your not.

6 mm bolt underneath the door latch assembly in the end of the door, I think it's a phillips or a 10 mm socket, can't remember. Needless to say, remove that. Reach inside and remove the rear window track you just un-bolted. You kinda have to pull it down because it's in a track at the top.

Crank the window up about half way, you should see 2 - 6 mm bolts (10 mm socket) beneath the window attaching the window to the x - member window crank assembly. Remove those 2 - 6mm bolts.

Get ready when you remove those 2 bolts, the window is now loose. You should be able at this point turn the window side ways as it comes out the top of the door.

Once window is removed it is held in that metal channel by friction with a rubber strip, you can pull it apart or leave it if your going to put it back in.

Hope this helps, Matt

Thanks for the write up TL. This saved me some grief. With the rear lower metal track in place i was stumped for a bit.

I need to replace the passenger door glass in a 1970 model...what is the best way to remove on this model? same as above?

I literally just did this the other day.
