Does anyone have any experience removing this panel (where the ash tray and cigarette lighter are located:

I want to remove it to replace the black plastic piece surrounding the cigarette lighter, which was broken by the previous owner as can be seen in picture #1.

Hi, Remove tha ash tray ( to get a grip ) and just pull that panel off. It is held by four clips.
Cheers,
Dominic.

i would suggest one step prior to removing that peice. Pull up the center dash trim where the cup holder is and then pull that out, there is a slight lip there that is kept in by the center/shifter trim. I donno if its only on the LX due to the slightly larger border from the wood trim, but thats what i have to do to take it off.

And if you plan on removing that black shroud, plan on getting another one, i dont think the cig plug can be fit properly with that missing. I took that whole plug out in total and put three rockers switchs there for a discreet location.

What an excellent idea. Thanks!

It might be easier if you remove or loosen the center panel, the one that surrounds the Hi-Lo and transmission shifter. It will be easier when you try to replace it.

When I installed my iPod Adapter I removed all the bezels from the radio stack, then down to the trim around the shifter, then back up to one around the ashtray.

The clips that retain the bezel around the ashtry were the toughest. Sometimes using a screwdriver with a couple layers of old cotten t-shirt around the tip to protect the trim will really help.

Also, you might want to get some Meguirs plastic polish to really clean up the trim pieces once removed. The Meguirs has a light abrasive that helps lessen or remove the fine scratches that always seem to find there way there.

Just take your time and dont bust anything.
