I just put a generic cheap LED light bar on my ARB front bumper. This necessitated the moving of the license plate to another location. I didn't readily see one and I'm not big on drilling new holes in things.

Back when I wheeled a FJ40, my front plate would get beat up so I made it removable by having it clip onto the roller fairlead. I decided to repeat this setup for th 80 series.

First, you need a pair of Maglite D cell mounts brackets like these:

I then just mounted them with some flathead machine screws to a piece of aluminum bar stock. Then just mounted the license to to front of that. Easy peasy. The clips hold the plate very strong and you can take it off when wheeling. Here are a few pictures.

From experience . make a tether for it out of cable and wire lugs so that when someone bumps it it will not fall of and be lost .

That's pretty damn slick

Never had any issue on my 40 requiring a tether. I always took it off while wheeling, which was why I built it. That being said, it can't hurt to add a tether. Just when you think you're done with a project, somebody comes along and points out where you can spend more time and money. Thanks :flipoff2:

Teather probably a good deterrent if some passby takes a shine to yur plate?

I guess. But I doubt anyone (us included) would even notice it's detachable without a real close examination.

good idea. I kept breaking the mounting tap while working on the engine bay over the ARB bumper. This will also get more air circulation thru the front into the radiator without partially blocking air flow.
