Does anyone know where the remote start module is located? This is a port installed option.

Here ya go. This is for a 2013 LX570. I assume based on your signature that's the year/model you're looking for. Pretty much the same for the LC, in case anyone else comes across this.

If all you're trying to do is determine whether remote start capability was installed, you can check on the underside of your hood for this orange sticker:

My 17 has the remote start installed. Can I just say, it's the most disappointing remote start I've ever had. Difficult to use, have to be very close for the fob to activate it, and the dang thing stops the engine as soon as you open the door! I understand that is a safety feature, but IMHO this combination of issues renders the remote start completely useless.

^ Ditto ^ - This is one area where the American brands have Toyota beat. Although I get the impression that remote start is mostly an American thing and other parts of the world don't understand...yet Reminds me of cup holders in the 80s.

But what really ticks me off is newer Lexus' get the enform app and one can remote start from the phone. :-(

My 2015 BMW X5 50i had an iPhone app that allowed me to remote start the climate control, open the doors, Turn on the lights, honk the horn, show me on a map where my car was, remote program GPS destinations, view vehicle messages and computer information. Crazy what can be done now. Despite that, it still didn't have remote start until 2016 when you could add it for $890!!

I think Toyota's philosophy with the LC is functionality and reliability over gimmicks, luxury, and convenience. The LC is built to last 20+ years/300-400k+ miles all the while being a phenomenal off-road package. That may explain the lacking of certain "comfort" features found in other models. The LC lacks air ride suspension, automatic liftgates, overly complicated infotainment systems, soft automatic closing doors (which I loved on my BMW), turbocharged engines, heads up display, etc. The reason is that these things break, malfunction, or wear down over time and reduce reliability. Don't get me wrong, the LC is a complex vehicle, but not near so as the LX570, Range Rover, and Mercedes GL/GLS.

I agree about Toyota's philosophy with the LC on reliability. I would say it's their philosophy across the board.
They don't lead- they follow. Slowly. Reliability, is after all why I paid Land Rover money for a Toyota.
Reliability is the draw and it gives a certain "sureness" about being more stable and solid than others.

But in terms of remote start though- They need to improve. They have been like this for 10+ years. No other company on the planet has a remote start that is as useless as this. However, it is consistently and reliably useless. And it's not just the LC- It's all Toyota and Lexus products.

Just like the cup holders- they won't learn until it noticeably hurts sales. Which it won't because not many actually care.

Yeah, the remote start would be much better if it simply didn't turn off the engine when you open the door. Luckily this is a very minor feature/issue.

Our 2017 Mercedes has remote start with Mercedes Me app, etc. Car turns off when you open the car. It's not just Toyota. Seems stupid.

I do agree that Mr T likes function and reliability over fancy and cutting edge technology but...

why the hell would they put lame $6000/ea video monitors that are not removable (by design) in the back seats? That's the biggest swing and miss in Cruiser history.

My kiddos love them, but I sure would've paid $12k less to not have them! Are they really listed as a $6k each option/replacement?

For less than the OEM, you can get an aftermarket remote start/keyless to do everything your heart desires. I suggest having a professional install it however. I installed one in my Tundra, not a fun time.

Any suggestions on which aftermarket is king these days?

I'm interested in this as well. Mine doesn't have the oem remote starter. I was quoted $800 parts and labor to go that route but might prefer an after market solution. From the little research I did it seems you might have to sacrifice a key fob to pair with the new starter, that's an easy eBay option and I'm willing to do that. Smart phone access would be nice, and a non-kill-when-door-opened would have to be available to go non-OEM.

Viper? Others?

I used a Viper for my Tundra, it worked pretty good.

It seems a lot of remote start/keyless setups are just rebranded versions of each other. The Viper worked fine.

I'm not sure about the key fob thing. I'm almost positive that as long as you have a immobilizer bypass you won't need to sacrifice a fob. This is where a professional install comes in as the bypass needs to be programmed for your specific application.

Any chance the tech stream app can program the door shut off to be disabled?

Great idea. I haven't worked with the techstream yet so i couldn't say but hopefully someone else can chime in.
