Anyone done this? I hate the location of the CDL switch on my 2013 LC. It’s by the drivers left knee and can’t be seen without leaning over to look. It should be on the center console by the shift knob and crawl/MTS controls. There seems to be space to put it on the CC plate just above the CC button but I suspect there is something under there that will prevent this. Anyone done this or have moved it somewhere else?

FWIW, some designer agreed with you: they moved it to the center console in '16...

Wonder if it is possible to put a 2016 center console in a 2013.

Edit: seems like it may be possible but expensive:

Not bad considering what it includes. It would give the interior a fresh update.

Interesting, I never would have thought of that or suspected that there was a kit for it.

Not sure I find it $1000 better though. :)

That kit seems to be missing a hole for the starter button. I wonder if it is made to be used in RHD and LHD locales, so you need to DIY that part?

there seem to be both LH and RH kits out there. Also, some of the pics don't look like the same model versions. Example the crawl control buttons/dial are not there in some of the pics. IMO, not $1000 better for just a switch relo but maybe as part of an overall interior upgrade or as part of a Tesla screen mod.

I'm probably just going to move my CDK to the other side of the steering column where there is an open 4 switch plate. Maybe I'll look underneath the center console cover plate to see if adding a switch is a realistic option.

you might be able to relocate it somewhere, but no it will not fit in that giant blank area. I wanted to put my front/rear diff lock knob there, but it turns out Toyota has a big long plastic channel with some solid wire that is in that spot. You'd have to hack that apart, then solder some wires around that spot. Sadly it's not worth it.

One thing you can do is move the switch to another blank in the panel it's already in. The blanks are "keyed" to intentionally fit into one spot but if you "force" them past the plastic nubs (keys) they'll swap interchangeably enough. I've done that with one. So perhaps swap the CDL button and headlight adjuster in your 2013 so at least the button is more visible?

I think I’ll try to move it to the 4x blank switch panel on the other side of the steering column.

That is where it is on the LX, you can't see it with out leaning over and looking.

Yeah, still not ideal but it would be the only switch in the panel so I could hit it without really looking. My problem with the current location is that I can never remember which switch is what without looking.

Same here, I go to adjust my mirror on my 2015 while driving and I wind up with a blinking CDL light, folded in mirrors, and clean headlights. :)

I'm guessing none of you have dogs. I find anything located on the center console is pawed at and stepped on and accidentally activated way too often. Having switches by my knees that I might have to bend over a bit to see far outweighs the alternative.

My dog doesn't seem to bump anything but my kids regularly do

We do but they aren't allowed access to the front seat so it's a non-issue. I can't imagine our 100lb Dobermans stepping all over the center console haha.

I have three dogs, but they only go in the cargo area behind the barrier.

Queuing George Thorogood: I drive alone, yeah with nobody else…. :steer:

I put a piece of rough tape on the edge of Traction Control button just above my right knee. TC gets shut off all the time when I am driving in town on icy roads.

I don't need to read the button, kinda like Braille.

Rotary switches on the center console would be ok.

One of our two dogs have learned how to roll down the window in the second row. When the other big dog joins in on the open window the Golden Ret will roll the window down the rest of the way. It's kind of unnerving going down the freeway and have a back window roll down. I have to lock out the window controls because they don't know how to read a speedometer or count telephone poles going by.

One of the most annoying things i deal with is that LX camera button LITERALLY hidden behind the wiper control stalk.
I like to use when parking in tight space as i have zero view of parking lanes once im entering a spot.

It takes way too long to identify and the best thing of all is that its right next to the parking distance sensor button. Hit the wrong one and you lose your park sensors during a parking maneuver, the worst possible time. What a lovely way to ensure that it fails in the worst way possible.
It's as if not one of the thousands of people who designed the vehicle ever tested it.
