Had a really bad gas smell last summer from under the hood and realized that most all of the fuel hoses to the charcoal canister and vacuum switching valve were loose and leaking. Also had a cracked vacuum hose to the power steering valve so replaced all of those with new rubber. Purchased a new vacuum switching valve and moved it by the canister on the firewall side where there’s a threaded boss to put it. Vacuum switching valves may work intermittently after 25 years due to the heat from the engine.Thought I’d share my project.
Remove old vsv assembly:

Tap threaded boss just on firewall side of charcoal canister:

Install valve with old bolt:

Plumb it:

Build wiring harness extension and plug it in:

Forgot to add Tesa tape on the wiring harness to cover ends and splices. Harness didn’t need trimming and I used the entire 4 feet of hose. This section of hose replaced with this mod was the most worn section.
