Hey guys! Meet Reef. Reef is a 2002 River-Rock Mica Land Cruiser with 215k miles. I saved Reef from a life of soccer trips and family vacations back in February. It was love at first sight. Online dating really works haha. My vision for this truck is to build the perfect beach weekend/cross country camping truck that's ready for any adventure.
The first thing I did was remove the running boards and throw on some 18" Tundra Steelies that I picked up on Facebook Marketplace.
Week 1:
I took it to the mechanic and got some maintainence done.
Part Pricing (Not Including the Mechanic's time)
$183 Timing belt kit with Water Pump for parts.
$31 Tie Rod Ends
$24 Spark Plugs
$37 Valve Cover Gasket
$29 Air Filter + Belts
$166 Radiator
I also replaced the Heater T's and Fan Clutch.
The first week it sounded like a jet engine when it was accelerating. I thought it might have been just the heat, but decided to look into it. After replacing the fan clutch, it completely solved the problem and increased my MPG by 2-3 miles.
Week 3:
I decided to paint the bottom with some POR-15 since the truck would frequently be driven on the beach. "This is going to be so worth it," is what I kept telling myself through the whole grueling process haha. It's been a few months and the paint is holding up well.
Week 4:
Decided to add some paint to the Tundra wheels. Found some paint at Advanced Auto Parts that matched the color of the truck really well.
Here's the painted wheels:
