For my second question of the day. I removed my radiator cap and there was a strange looking sediment mixed in with the coolant. With some of it floating on the surface. I am guessing that after a complete overhaul of the cooling system from all hoses to the radiator.. there was something left over.. hidden in the reaches of the block.
I had premixed two quarts of Toyota Red coolant which was left over from the original system fill.. with distilled water. It has been sitting on the shop bench for 6 months. I looked inside the gallon jug with a flashlight and it looked like it had curdled. Poured out a jar full and it looks like what is in the radiator. Shook it up and it all suspended in the coolant. After sitting for several days it has all settled to the bottom. Now the coolant is completely clear. What the h*$%ll!
Given that I have never seen anything like this.. but must admit I have not eyeballed coolant all that closely over the last 45 years of auto work. Plus I have never used Toyota coolant. Is this some kind of lubricant or substance to help transfer heat? Since I have NOT a clue.. I am hoping someone can give me the definitive answer and set me straight!!
