I have always had a spotting hitch on my landcruisers. It makes moving a trailer around so much easier. Recently got an LX570. There are no mounts listed anywhere. I found that the CURT 31198 fits perfectly on the existing tow hook mounts. 10 minute installation.
I am looking for a front hitch receiver for my LX470 and was wondering if this hitch would fit. Would you be able to measure the distance between the centers of the bolts (left to right)?
I was able to fit the Curt 31198 front hitch to my 2013 LC. I will place my portable winch there. The websites don't show it working for the LC. It is for the Tundra. I had Curt send me the spec sheet and it seemed it would fit. I had to trim some plastic moulding though.
Great find. I don't like that its so low and will get scrapped up! Did it just bolt right up??? Is the anyway to have it higher? Maybe behind the bumper??
I love the cost of the front receiver made by Curt. I can get away with a receiver mount winch until the ARB bumper comes around.
Unfortunately, Curt's front receiver doesn't stick far enough out for a WARN carrier to mount. I bought receiver extension, which is kinda of lame as it must decrease the overall strength rating, but might be fine in single line pull.
I like this idea, thank you for posting it. Also thanks for posting the measurements from your LX470, saved me going back out and measuring mine
I ordered a front receiver hitch for a 1997 4Runner, I think the width will be perfect for the front frame rails on my LX470. I am planning on flipping it upside down though, mounting it on top of the frame rails. Then I want to do the flip-down license plate trick to hide the receiver. I really want to try to get the higher approach clearance. The one I ordered is a Warn 33025.
How is yours working out? I wonder if you could flip the one you bought to the top of the frame.
I have enough experience from running my Jeep, that I am not willing to take the Hundy off road without being able to connect a winch. That way even if I do have my head up my butt and do something dumb, I will have a chance of getting out of it Also like the idea of being able to use the front receiver as a Hi-Lift jack point.
To those that have a front hitch, how feasible would it be to have something like this mounted on it, i.e. would it be ruined on the first day because it's so low? http://www.whitenight.com/
I have this mounted on my rear hitch to assist in reversing at night. I've been looking for a good fog light. Went with Rigid Industries D2 wide but not 100% happy with it as a fog light. Considering getting a front hitch, White Night reverse lights and upgrade the bulbs to H3 Narva +50.
I have the front skid plates and plastic panels off on my rig now and I don't see how you could flip that curtis hitch as Brevitything is describing above. The mounting points on the frame are threaded - so you couldn't come in from the top, and there is a front cross member essentially even with the frame rails that would prevent you from flipping the hitch over and trying to mount it upside down in the same location. A custom fab shop might be able to construct something for you, though!
Where there is a will (and a checkbook), there is a way!
And to even further revive this thread, what do you think the tongue weight rating is on one of these front mount hitches. Specifically, do you think it could handle a 250lbs dirt bike on a hitch rack like this?
I've set up mountain bike shuttle vehicles like this and way prefer it to a trailer, but don't want to push my luck on dropping and running over a dirt bike, and bending my frame all at the same time. If they can handle a tongue weight of 500lbs+, I'd feel okay.
Just put this on my 2013 LC, easy install. Dremel made easy work of the plastic molding. Then take off the tow hooks, and reinstall with the hitch receiver. A jack helps hold it in place.
Tongue weight is 500lbs, but feels like it could hold a lot more.
I don’t think it will affect it if there is no additional skid plate. The Tundra skid plate bolts to the tow hook bolts. I have the aluminum additional skid plate on the Tundra, and was thinking of putting one on that until reading you have to cut an access hole. Looks like they can get to the stock “skid plate” bolts on the Landcruiser. Maybe Beretta knows, as I haven’t had to change the oil yet... should be fun when th wife takes it to the dealer (it is her car).
