Hi All

My BJ60 has a pretty standard Toyota starter clutch (28011-54010), common to many diesels of the era, but much beefier than anything on a petrol. It looks fine, but one of the bearings feels a bit dry. I've tried ordering a couple of times from different suppliers in the US, the price is great but they seem to be out of stock nationwide. The part is about triple the price outside of the US. And besides, it's much more satisfying to renew something rather than just replace it, particularly as, it's just a dry bearing that would probably run without issue for years.

The rear bearing (plunger side, left of picture) is open, feels fine and would anyway be easy to re-grease. It's the front bearing, behind the pinion drive gear, that is sealed and a bit dry.

Has anyone successfully rebuilt one of these, without ruining the pinion gear?

Thanks

EO
