When cruising down the highway at any speed above 55mph, I get a weird, loud vibrating sound coming from the rear passenger windows being rolled down all the way. Having the front drivers/passenger windows up or down does not change the loud sound. The rig still drives just fine, it is just loud - abnormally loud. I am unable to articulate the issue any better than some sort of turbulence or vacuum. I searched this forum and did not find anything, so if I missed a good thread on this issue, please feel free to point me towards it. I never had this issue in my FJ62 or 80 series, so maybe this is just the way it is with the 100?

It's some sort of aerodynamic issue, mine does the same. I've had several different vehicles over the years that did this as well...

It's called wind throb (that's what I call it). Technical term is Helmholtz resonance. Pressure is having a hard time equalizing with a limited opening to a large area. I usually crack the very rear windows when operating sunroof or only rear passenger windows are down.

Happens to me all the time when my dog is in the backseat and I have one of those windows down. It's almost a buffering noise that really bothers my ears. I also open the rear vents and it goes away or sometimes I can crack the driver or passenger windows and it will equalize.

Yep. Totally normal. I read somewhere that the more aerodynamic a vehicle is, the more pronounced this turbulence is. As someone said, open the rear vents. Problem solved.

I've heard it called buffeting. The air gets trapped in back. The corvette guys deal with this. They sell a piece that props the trunk open a tiny bit for them.

Always called it buffeting as well. Now I get to use Helmholtz resonance next time.

Rear quarter glass open is your friend. Just like cracking the back glass on a 4R or Sequoia.

Yep - normal on this truck. On my 3 series when the kids roll down one of the back windows at any speed above 35 or so it creates so much pressure it physically hurts my ears, but all I have to do is crack one of the front or the sunroof and goes away. Just needs somewhere for the air to vent.
