Searched and couldn't find a list of parts for a rear axle service (unlike the extensive lists for front axle stuff).

I assume the rear wheel bearings are the same as the front?
What about the hub seals and inner axle seals?

When I did the front six months ago, I replaced the wheel and knuckle bearings. The wheel bearings didn't look too bad, but it made me feel good.

Should I have a set of new wheel bearings on hand for the rear axle service, or plan on just repacking? Like others have said, if I've got new ones on hand, I'll most certainly end up putting them in, regardless of what the existing ones look like.

Hey Hayes:

Front and rear wheel bearings are the same, so they are interchangeable.

From my understanding, the wear on the rear axle wheel bearings is much less than the front ones--where most of the action occurs. :grinpimp:

From my memory, you got a few gaskets, an inner oil seal, and the bearings. While you are in there--depending on wear--you might as well change the rotors and the brake pads too. Check your parking brake mechanisms too while you are in there.

Also, make sure--if you have a rear locker--to engage the rear locker for the job.

Call Dan up and he'll get you the parts that you need (exactly the parts you need) and you'll be ready to roll.

In my opinion, much easier than the front end job--I'd say about 4-5 hours (second time around).

Best regards.

Seems like there should be some hub seals in there too?
Would Dan just send me the stuff I need for the rear axle service if I say "Sell me the stuff I need for the rear axle service?"

Better yet, maybe I'll have him sell me a FSM too.

Speaking of CDan, how does one get in contact with him to order parts?

Good point on the pads and rotors, although I just replaced the pads a couple weeks ago. I'll inquire about the cost of rotors.
Got to be simpler than the front end.
