Hello There

Start hearing a constant squeak when backing up.
Took it to mechanic ended up being rear u joint.

Could not find the right despite going to delership. They said LC 100 uses same one as FJ cruiser.

Did the LC 100 use 1 U joint # throughout ?

Pls advise.

Jay

Have a 1999 Toyota Land Cruiser and did provide vin. # to dealer.
Vin: Vin#:........WJA006000740

It is a 1999.

Can we know if this is the right part # :

04371-60070 ??

For installation does it need to be pressed in to sit in place ?

You can check for yourself here, (and I would remove your VIN from the post)

Add your vin then search and enter the part number to determine fitment.

As for install procedure: the repair manual (FSM) has a step by step process and there is a very specific way that the spider is pressed into the yoke. There will be a color spot on one of the bearing caps which is oriented to a drill mark on the yoke. I think its important to make sure this is followed to ensure balanced operation.

This is taken from the 04 manual but likely the same process for other years. There are other relevant instructions on other pages in this part of the manual. You may want to download and print those pages if you are not using a Toyota dealer for your service work.

Never knew about the color mark, but done several U joints on toyota trucks and no vibrations at all. Thanks for the information.

I used a GMB U joint in a hurry for front drive shaft on a 90 Hilux. Never engaged 4wd so front drive shaft just moves up and down with the front solid axle. After about an year that GMB is rattling! It is a piece of junk.

thank you guys. Was able to install it. Went for an aftermarket " koyo" brand.
Looking to get a spare U joint ( 1 for rear and 1 for front).

I was checking RockAuto for the heavy duty category on U Joint for LC 100 1999.

They carry: AC Delco, Moog Precision 285, Moog Precision 287

I believe Moog is a good after market brand. Appreciate your input.

^^Best practice is replacing both spiders at once on a drive shaft, otherwise youll likely get vibration issues and eventually you spend twice to remove and rebalance driveshaft.

Sometimes Toyota OEM parts are the best choice in certain apllication- this area is one of them. On toyota driveshaft (propeller shaft) use toyota yokes and spiders, anything else will more than likely cause you more trouble than its worth from saving a few bucks on aftermarket options.

I already changed it on one side unfortuantely and used an aftermarket.

Thinking to have a spare handy from Moog or Spicer.

Buy moog

of the two above options I would go with a spicer as they are an oem supplier for taco drive shafts and u-joints. Toyota joints aren't really all that expensive, I would try to get a factory u-joint first

Stay with a Japanese u-joint (most any part) when possible; Toyota, Toyo, Matsuba. Quality controls are much higher with less volumes produced.

Moog is trash IMO. 10+ years ago.... good product, but pricing like most others pushed them to the cheapest bidder overseas. Moog gets the lifetime warranty treatment at VatoZone, NAPA and CarQuest, etc... If you have to change it out more than once in a life cycle.... not a good product regardless of a good warranty.

But once again just my .02

Check with @cruiseroutfit - they've probably got them in stock.

We (Cruiser Outfitters) most definitely do, Matsuba brand Japanese joints that we've sold, installed, raced, etc for several decades as ell as the OEM Toyota joints. We can certainly get you taken care of!

Question? would it be a good idea to have the u joints replaced if I’m chasing a driveline vibration/thunk
