hi alll

so, i've swapped a FF axle under my fj62, and it doesn't have the mounting brackets for the sway bar.

sure i could cut the brackets off the old housing, and weld them on, but the guy that is taking the old housing off my hands would like the brackets too.

i see no point in both of us having to weld brackets on, so what are my options?

anyone out there have bracktes they want to throw my way?

is there some kind of aftermarket bracket system doohickie out there that is easily adaptable?

any help is much appreciated

Doubt there are any you can buy. I think you would have to fabricate them if they are not on the housing. My early 60 does not have them on the rear axle so I can't add a rear sway bar unless I fab something up.

Sounds like some machinist somewhere could make a few coins fabbing some up for those of us with early ones.

What year is your FF - is it from a 60 series? Mine had the mount brackets on the axle. From looking at them, should be simple to fab and weld on.

Can you make a drawing of the brackets. If they are relatively simple maybe I can make a set for myself and another for you. I have a machine shop in my basement. No promises but send me an email to allfoden@aol.com
There is also a local machine shop that does CNC machine work for $30/hr but that is only good if you want to make many of the same part. I work cheap usually free.

I will buy a set too.

ed,

if you aren't in a hurry i can certainly do that. i think you could get away with flat stock a big vise, and a dremmel to get it done. i don't have a big vise though.

i can get the dimensions this weekend.

thanks

I'll buy a set too if they prove easy to fab ...:)

maybe are not from a 60 series .. for that reazon haven't it.

I'll take a look at my 88 and see what they look like.

Not to rush you but we are looking at a snow storm for the weekend and I might have some time on Sunday to do some machine work. Can anyone email or fax me a dimensioned sketch of the brackets? (860) 244-9626.

i made a crude drawing. they're actuallt different brackets driver side vs passenger side but i dn't know whay. the passenger side is simplest and the one i drew. the driver side has a blank area to the outside of the bracket mount area that servs no purpose. i hope this isn't too counfusing, i just gave details to make the driver side bracket work on both sides, it'll require trimming for final fit.

if that doesn't work click the link in my sig and choose the appropriate album. there are 2 pics of the same thing just in case one shows up better for you. call me, i'm PMing my number, if there are questions.

thanks so much, huge help.

no particular hurry btw, i use the same time frame for working on the cruiser as i do when taking a trip in it: glacial

Bryan,

I don't have any 1/8 steel stock in my bin at this moment. And my supplier
has a $100 minimum order so I don't think I can help unless I use heavier stock. I don't mind using what I have on hand no charge.
