Background: New to the 100 platform, purchased a nice 87K mileage '99 from a fellow mud member, and he has set it up pretty nicely with OME torsion bars up front and 866's in the rear. I haven't gotten the parts numbers off of the OME shock absorbers yet, so I don't know which set he mounted in the rear (but he is a competent builder and fabricator/vendor, so I expect but haven't confirmed he mounted the correct length OME shocks). In the back, I have a bed drawer kit and some retrieval gear, probably 200 lbs total for all (3d row seats are out), OEM bumper and Toy receiver hitch.

Issue: When I drive over a speed bump or other large bump and the suspension rebounds, the rear suspension emits a booming/clanging sound, like the springs are unloading from the perches. I got underneath it late yesterday afternoon for a look/see after dropping the spare tire, and nothing is noticeably loose. I took it out with the spare tire removed and still get the sound on bumps. I have an FOR Gen II on my 80, so this is my first experience with OME springs. Any input would be helpful, thanks!

Make sure that rubber gasket between the frame top of the spring is still there. I had the same issue with my previous pair of shocks. It was the hardware making a racket. Check to make sure those are in correct.

Had a similar sound and my rear shock had broken. They were still seated in the tube so you could not tell by climbing under and pulling on the shocks. It took 2 people. One on the bumper bouncing hard and one underneath.

Thanks folks, I will put it on a rack this saturday and check shock type, length, and bushings

Had the exact same issue going over speed bumps. Just as you described it felt like the spring was actually lifting off the lower perch. Only noticed it going over sharp bumps. Close inspection showed some wear marks on the spring perch. My mechanic put some kind of thick tar-like tape where the spring rested on the perch. The sound disappeared. So there must be something going on between the spring and where i sits. My springs are 866 progressives too. Never had this issue with my 865 springs.

I am haVing the same thing going on since installing the lift. It is only on potholes and speed bumps. My wife is starting to second guess my lift idea. I am running ome medium kit 2.5 from slee. Looking forward to solution ideas.

Can you make it happend by jumping up and down on the back bumper?
My broken shock drove me nuts and I climbed under there many times and pulled on it as hard as I could before finally finding where it was broken.
I finally had my wife jump and and down and it became obvious. I was just not able to locate it myself. I could not get enough force when under the truck.

The PO had put on a new set of Bilstiens about a year before. I guess my wife doesn't like to slow down for speed bumps.

So I had this same issue and after many frustrating debug sessions, I mentioned it to my mechanic and the next time he had it on the rack he looked at *everything*
Mine ended up being a missing pad clip on the driver side. I guess when I went over a bump I must not have had my foot on the break and the pads were jumping... YMMV
