I have this idea about turning the rear ash treys into USB chargers (keeping flipping top). Has anyone tackled this before? Seems like a good use of compartment space.

That is a great idea! Simple to do it but I haven't seen any yet. Much better than how most put it on the back of center console!

I was referring to the 2nd row. At first I was looking at the center console but than thought why not use the ash treys. I am going to give this some thought. The hardest part is getting it to look clean and flush in the ash trey while letting the top flip up and down

Good call hoser that was reason enough for me not go forward with idea. I have kids and see them swinging the door open with their device attached

Slee used to mod the 80 series middle-row ash trays for electronics...pre-USB days. Maybe search some of their older builds.

Your ash tray idea has me thinking about mounting some somehow next to where you would fasten each of the seat belts in the 2nd row. Ono a recent trip I had issues with the dog getting caught in the cords when I had the kids Ipads plugged into the outlet in the center consol and their cords were too short to get to the outlet in back.

I came here looking for this exact mod, but I'm not really dissuaded by the prospect of a door opening yanking a device. We plan on driving many highway miles in the cruiser, and electronic devices will be part of the trip for our four kids. I'd like a clean way to give them USB power without having wires all over the rear two rows of seats.
