Do you have any mechanical expirience? If you don't, I wouldn't try replacing the seal. I'm still trying on my pinion seal on my front differential. You'll need a torque meter which is about 200 dollars to get or you can rent one from a bearings or part store or get one cheap. If you screw up you get to replace the crush sleeve...big job. Look at my post about the pinion seal, then see if you think you can get it done.

Good Luck

karryss,
Get your self a copy of the the Haynes Land Cruiser service manual.
It will help you with all the tricks to remove the pinion nut and seal without pulling the bearing and the race. The puller to pull them is big $$$.
You can use a post or beam type in/lb torque wrench but a torque meter is the way to go.
Do a search on pinion seal under landtoy80. I have some info that will help you.
Read all you can before you do it. If you do, you can do the job.

Can't stress that enough :flipoff2:

Maybe one day I'll learn to read and learn instead of just doing and learning

My seal was leaking and it turned out to be a clogged diff breather. That little valve at the top of the tube was clogged solid so I replaced it with a fuel filter for a lawmower that I got from Aubuchon hardware. Got to get to the extention mod soon.

Thank you to all for the info. I'll go find me a FSM to make sure i'll do it right and also i'll check my breather, maybe it's clogged up. again thanks..
