Help. I just put an OME 851/860 on last friday (4-27) and I changed the diff. and T-case to Mobil 1. Now, my rear locker will not engage. CDL and front locker are fine. Did I do something wrong? The rear locker was working without hesitation just 2 weeks ago. Any suggestions or links would be appreciated.

with the key on but engine off engage the center and then rear locker, can you hear the locker motor turning and then stop?

Have not checked. Will do first thing in morning. Thanks.

Only the center can be heard. In fact, I have to drive a few feet for the front to engage, which is typical (I think). The rear locker dash light does nothing but flash. I also kept the speed between 0-5 mph.

Could it be the diff "motor". I can't imagine the OME or the Mobil1 having anything to do with it, but anything is possible I guess.

Unless you've accidentally disconnected the locker harness while working on it, nothing else you have done should have caused that. I'd put it in low, rotate your knob to rear locker only and turn a corner. My bet is it will lock up immediately.

And, doesn't the rear locker have to engage in order for the front locker to engage?

El Mariachi,

Did the corner turn without anything happening.

Doc,

I was under the impression that the rear diff needed to engage before the front. Unfortunately, my 80 seems to be following its' own rules.

Thanks for the help. I will redo all of these things tonight.

My 97' FZJ will lock the front up before the rears. If that makes you feel any better.

I am baffled. Nothing you did with the lift or fluid change should make any difference. You DID use 75 or 80W 90 gear oil in the rear diff, right? How did you check your levels after refilling?

Yes, I used 75W-90 and I used my Chiltons for the exact numbers. I checked the amount with the finger test. The rear diff was overfilled slightly. Ironically, I took your advice and went out and turned a couple of corners again and sure enough the rear engaged? Unfortunately, I can't get my center diff to turn off now.

Shift the T-case into Neurral to help with the drive line wind up, the center will unlock.
