I just got a new to me 2000 Land Cruiser. While changing the fluids everything looked good, but when I was looking over everything for condition corrosion and security I noticed an actuator motor on the rear differential. I don’t have a button or anything in the vehicle.
I know that 80s had a center diff lock wired up with no button, is this like that? All good to go minus the button and wiring to the dash?
🤞

If someone has swapped a pre-2000 LC rear axle, then it is possible that it has a rear locker. May be post a couple of pics for us to see?

Definitely, I’ll get some first thing in the am. I know the actuator motor is there, but I don’t know if the internals are. I’m assuming it’s all there, axles just getting built and going down the assembly line just didn’t get wired to the dash. Im hoping!

Also, I’m the second owner technically according to the title. 3rd in reality bc the og was a lady, who gave it to her daughter, who I bought it from 2 weeks ago. All to say they definitely didn’t mod or swap anything. Everything is stock Toyota. They even gave me some Toyota brochures and owners manual. The daughter cried when I bought it so I know they took care of it pretty well.

I didn’t notice before but it does look like sometime in the last 25 years that something happened to the drivetrain. I see Jasper stickers on the axles front and rear.

I would check for signs of bodywork or undercarriage damage. Could’ve taken a hit bad enough to tweak the original axle.

True, I’ve driven it a few hundred miles and everything seems good. The paint and body is close to flawless. So im not too worried about that. Especially coming from an older single woman that gave it to her daughter. Im guessing maybe some diffs that never got fluid or some scenario like that, having a sister and being married to a woman I can see that being the case more than anything else.
I’m just psyched that I have a lockable rear axle.

Yes! You got a locker and wiring all in place. I think you can apply 12v and see if it locks!
