Installed mine today. Great product Brendan. Very happy with the results. Now i can see inside my boxes and get the gear I am looking for without cursing too much.

Power or non-power liftgate?

Just a follow up on inquires have more black and grey plastic cover LED lights available now.
Thanks Brendan

Love the integration of this kit!

I'm a bit concerned about the brightness. Seems overly bright to me?

I camp a lot, roughly once a month. Prior to tailoring my gear, I use to look for lighting that was bright. I've since decided that overly bright things for camping doesn't help as it ruins ones night vision. Less is more sometimes.

Anyone have any ideas to toning the brightness down?

Add an inline resistor?

Maybe some red cellophane tape?

An amber filter maybe?

Hot glue magnets to some red lens material and you would have a simple filter

Yes good idea guys, I did think about using filters like my old MAGLite with amber or red plastic perspex over the light. Magnets either side attaching to the bolts holding the light would be best way of holding it.

Though for myself I just like the bright white, still amazes me each time I use it and how handy it has been.

Hello mate yes can I get one for my 200 ..I am in Perth..superfridgie@bigpond.com

Hello @Tex68w and Everyone,

I got the light installed and it's VERY nice. Great job on the design @Brendan! I did paint it black and tried to match the black cargo color as much as possible, as well as the speakers on each side that are slightly more satin in color. I am not too picky, but I think it came out great. The light was super easy to install, here are a few notes from the install:

1) The opening is small, so luckily my hands are not too big and I could just barely fit them in there. If you have bigger hands, I think you may need to take off the trim. Take a look at the connection with a flashlight to get an idea of how it looks before you go in. The tab is closer to the where the wires are located than I thought, and when you press it in, it comes out fairly easily. If you are struggling with it and can't press anything in, go closer toward the wires. Here is a photo:

2) Once you unplug it from the power lift gate switch, you just plug that plug into the one on the light wiring harness, and then plug the light into the power lift gate switch. Its very easy! I then pushed the wires inside and ziptied the excess to keep it neat and tidy (I am a bit OCD 🤪). It works awesome - turns on when you activate the lift gate and turns off when it closes. Here are some photos of the final product:

Let me know if you have any questions!!!

Regards, David
[Typed while singing "Just a two minute mod" (to the tune of the Gilligan's Island theme song ("Just a three hour cruise")).]
David, this post was the Bomb!
The directions that came with the light were inscrutable (sorry Brendan - must be something about being down under where water swirls the drain backwards), suggesting that I needed to be "pushing it outwards," when in fact, I needed to be pushing upwards on a tab and pulling out a connector that is about 6 inches left of the hole looking up at the window and facing behind the truck.
An hour in, after I had already pushed and pulled on two other connectors that weren't the right ones (I even managed to get one loose and try to force the light into it for 5 minutes until I realized that it had 5 prongs and the light only had four receptacles), I thought I better get on the internet and see if I could find better instructions.
David, these are them - both pictures and explanation were invaluable.
At least I was now yanking on the right connector.
Trouble was, my hands are borderline too large. In fact my left hand got trapped for a minute and developed an acute sense of claustrophobia til I wrestled it loose at the expense of a pound of epidermis.
So I called my wife out and you know how that goes - she scratched herself and went back in the house.
The crux of my problem was, I could depress the tab with my right thumbnail, but not far enough to achieve release - my thumb got in the way.
I figured if I just waited six months and grew out my thumbnail, I'd have it.
I finally hit upon a solution.
I got a surgical glove, put a sliver of wood in the thumb, and then positioned the sliver under my thumbnail to give me the extension needed to depress the tab sufficiently to release the connector.
The rest was a breeze, naturally.
Although, I have to admit, in my excitement to connect the light to the connector, I dropped it - seven feet onto concrete below.
Another lesson learned - hold onto both ends until it's hooked up or put a blanket under yourself.
On the bright side (so to speak), it's pretty durable, apparently - it lit when I finally got it hooked up and opened the door.
I'm so happy to have my first mod under my belt.
It really is a 2-minute mod - the second time you do it.
I need a few days to recuperate, after which I'll be ready to consider, say, a 3-minute mod.
Steve
