I can open the hatch from the inside, but not the outside. I've read through all the threads I can and it's just not clicking in my mind how to make this work. Can someone explain this to me in steps like I'm a small child? :)

May be hindered by the clips I purchased (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0040D0L02?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title)

I read in another thread that these are working great for folks, but I'm not sure how. The male part of the door latch comes out of the yellow female part almost immediately.

Trying to avoid having to buy the entire 300 part!

(Include pictures of the part, the area, and a failed attempt.)

You are a scholar and a gentlemen. It worked!

I didn't even bother with the yellow clip. Just straight zip tied.

First of all you installed it backwards.
Secondly, I'm pretty sure that clip is not right for the application.

The part you have clipped on the bracket is designed to slip over the rod (lower left in your hand). The split piece (upper right in your hand) is what is supposed to clip into the round hole on the bracket.

However, that clip is not designed for the offset due to the head of the adjustable rod. That clip is for the OTHER rod (look at the white one down below)
