The rear shields on my exhaust manifold are a bit rough, so I'm looking for so new or better ones. I can't find them on eBay or parts houses anywhere. I could probably leave them or try to patch them up, but curious if anyone has some decent ones they'd sell. Or if you all just leave them off? These are kind of close to the steering gearbox, so I'm sure Mr Toyota knew best when he put them there though.

W/ all your talents, just bend some sheet metal up, paint and install. :)

My last rear one mount is rusted beyond belief. and the heat shield crumbled.

I picked up this and wrapped the top of my muffler. DEI Muffler Shield Kits 010455 seems to be working fine. Also held up to rain and mud as well. I was concerned with that, then I said.....ya heat resistant fibers getting wet on a hot exhaust.....not happening.
Attaches with stainless straps and comes with a nifty tool to make them tight.

I also used this on my Man-A-Fre cat back before I pulled it out for the OEM mufffler. DIscolors the muffler, but after a 1 hour drive no heat worries.
Had them on my Chevelle as well to cut the heat from the dual exhaust down.

Other than that try SOR, they had one some time ago.

Another option if you do not want to strap it to your exhaust. DEI Floor and Tunnel Shields II 050503

He’s not talking way back there, he said manifold. But most likely those are trashed too.

@Willard seems what I read was those wraps increase the likelihood of debris etc to get up in there. I bought a simple metal shell that goes over top the muffler and is held on the same way. Yet to attach but seemed like a better option.

Whoops miss read that!!!!

On the manifold itself there are 2 heat shields. I have to check when I get home. I may have 17167 at home, that you can have.
It has been a while since I have seen it have have to dig it out of the parts bin.

Not yet anyways, while I have not been anywhere mucky yet (no plan to either) I figure it should survive on the fire roads.
The stuff that sticks the the undercarrage looks better as it is more of a sealed item, but that will never stick to my oiled chassis.

The problem with just a metal shell is you need some way for the heat to escape if attached, as in a space between it ant the muffler. But then you have another place to have dirt and crap to get trapped in.
My KLR exhaust has this design on the down pipe, every off road ride I end up cleaning it as the pipe is not cooling properly. the heat shield is caked full of mud.
A metal piece that is up and bolted strapped to the undercarrage is a better option. That is basicly what most manufactures do. Toyota went the extra mile and put asbestos sandwiched between 2 thin metal plates then sealed it.

Yeah true. I’ve thought about using the shell up in the under carriage instead but yet to eye it.

Hey Willard, thanks for the offer! I just want to make sure that it'll fit. Mine is a '90 FJ62, and the parts fiche looks like maybe this truck has a different set of shields?

Ya that is for a 60 nevermind.

I looked at parts souq and nope

Looked at SOR and they show them used available.
But 140 for the front heatshield....brutal. Rear is 44 bucks used.

I can say I have bought a few used parts from them and never was disappointed. I picked up a missing exhaust bracket and rear lower shock mounts. One mount look brand new.
But they are $$$.

Awesome, I'll head over there and take a look!

Yeah, they show they have the two rear ones used, but man nearly $80 for used heat shields. Maybe I'm just a cheap basturd.
You and me both then! I use them only for the parts I cannot find anywhere else. Like the exhaust hanger in front of the Cat. I mean who is going to have that and not rusted to crap.

I've seen other threads where people have bent up Aluminum sheet and it works fine. The OE ones are "Aluminized" sheet prolly to resist heat. Personally, if you were going to make them, I'd use thin Stainless Steel sheet. Prolly last forever.

There are also some youtube vids on DIY heat shields using various cheap reflective materials.
