My 99 LC sags quite a bit when I get a heavy trailer on the back end of it. (I am coming to this from a Cummins 3/4 ton Dodge.) I love the ride of the truck unloaded, and only tow on the weekends. Have any of you put in air springs to level out a load? If so, what product did you use? How did it affect the ride loaded/unloaded? What was the cost? What are the downsides?

Thanks,
Brett

Brett,
This has been covered in several different threads (and many threads counting just conversation about different coil springs, etc.) but here is one I found when I used the SEARCH feature/engine (hint, hint):

There are a few here that used/use air lift bags inside the rear coils...

BTW: Welcome to the best LC resource! :flipoff2:

Thank you for the note and reference. It did not really answer the questions that I posed, however. Maybe I should ask the question differently... For those of you who tow heavy trailers, how are you solving the rear end sag?

Thanks,
Brett

A friend (non-LC) has been using Air Lift 1000 air bags with great results. Since you mentioned you like the stock ride when unloaded, this solution sounds perfect for you. These airbags assist your springs, not replace. So when unloaded you can run just 5 psi and when loaded, you can air up to 15-30 psi.

The cost is less then $100 for just the airbags. I say try it out and if you like it, you can add the compressor w/ in cabin controls. Many guys will run the two bags aired independently for towing and "bridged" together when off-road.
