OK...My differential is blowing gear oil out on highway trips....50 plus mph.....

The only reason it should blow is:
overfilling
overheating

Yes?

I checked and filled to bottom of plug day before 3 hour one way trip....Lucas Heavy Duty 80/90 Gear Oil

Blew everywhere plus some....

Only blowing out the diff vent though....no seals, etc...

What do I need to look for/fix/clean/replace?

Little off topic, My son had used Lucas grease in the front hubs on his 60. Drove in the local river for a time and got stuck for a while last fall. Said there was something funny with the steering a couple of months ago We jacked it up and one of the wheels had more play than it should so we pulled it, the bearings where the color of s--t.
I blamed it on the Lucas grease, which was blue to start with, we rebuilt the whole front axle and used different grease.
Did you change anything besides the oil?
Diff's really don't make much in the way of pressure. I have seen the oil come out of the pinion seal because the spring in the vent was too strong and wouldn't let the vent work. Took the spring right out and just used the cap over the vent.
You could try extending the vent with hose if you haven't already done so.

Good luck

Thanks jb

My rear axle spewed oil out when it got filled with water.. Where it got in I'm not sure.. When I drained the fluid, there appeared to be equal amounts of water and oil in there.. Ofcourse, oil floats on water, so its the first to come out.. You cant really overfill the axle following proper procedures.

do you not have the diff breather tube in place?

if not - oil should normally come out a little once it gets hot - the tube is to stop water coming in when submerged...but also to allow a little bubbling up when it gets hot without it coming out...

just a heads a up....
