Rear Differential Breather

I used a 1/8" NPT (I believe) brass pipe nipple from McMaster... one end I used an air fitting and the other I cut down and threaded into the axle (not the same threads but had no issues with the brass) The shoulder of the air fitting severs to holt the "T" in place, you just need to make sure it's relatively close to the same length as the original breather so it snugs down. Good luck!

Take the cap off and weld a nut on the top of the breather

I should check and see if they're steel. I'm assuming they are.
That's an excellent solution if they are. Tig them together. Done.

The rear diff was leaking so I changed the gear oil, gaskets and pinion seal. It sealed up well. A year later I opened it up to put an ausie locker in and there was water in there.

I'm just wondering if it's pulling it in through the seals when the housing is warm and the water is cold

A better breather setup would solve either scenario. The original setup isn't very good.

I have the same (90404-10018). I removed mine, cleaned it, and am reinstalling soon. Should I be applying any sealant to this style of breather union? It's not tapered thread so it begs the question...
