Gents,

Just got back from a safari and noticed my rear diff having a slight leak. Any suggestions as to what it may be and the extent of the damage?

Could it be a leak from a split breather pipe ? Do you have or had electric lockers ?

Start with the easiest thing. Pinion bearing seal looks dry. Could be a transfer case seal. That would be an easy cheap fix. OR as above, could be the breather line.

Drain the oil and inspect for metal shavings to give you an idea about damage inside without removing transfer case.

I recently had a leak on mine and it ended up being the breather. Filled her up and was all good to go.

Sometimes its best to clean it all down and go for a short drive and you maybe able to see the exact spot. Thats a locker diff, probably seeping out of the locking mechanism. Probably just a paper gasket and an hour or so.

Is it a 78/79 series? Looks like the wires have been chopped.
