I'm curious about other options than Slee, TJM, Kaymar etc. for a rear bumper. I pulled my plastic side wings off and would like to make two pieces to span the width of both sides of the rear cross member. Such as in the frist picture, then I came across the setup in the second picture. Both seem like somthing I'd be interested but the problem is both are listed in Japan. A TJM would be overkill for me and a Slee would be a waste of money (in my case). I only need somthing to fill the void left by the plastic side pieces. Maybe this is somthing others including a manufacturer would be interested in building? What kind of price would I be looking at if I had someone build me a set like that?

Are you sure you need to do anything?

If a TJM is overkill, and many of us (yourself probably included) have wheeled a fair bit with the OEM bumper, why do you need to do what you propose? Have you buggered the side wings up?

Fair enough.

i like that

Shoot Jason Keene at JKCutoms and email with pics...he'd make whatever it is you want.

Not really buggered but scratched more than I would like and the worst is from shopping carts. When it comes down to it, I just like the way the rear quarter panels look without a fat plastic bumper sticking down.

I agree - same for the front...the 80 has really nice lines once you get rid of all the excess plastic.

I think you'll see some of this kind of stuff hitting the market...the rear crossmember is stout enough that if you aren't looking for a tire carrier you don't really need a complete "cover" bumper.

Nay

Hey Mot,

What is that on the right side of that license bracket? Some kinda light?

Me too, but I'm just afraid if I take those fat plastic pieces off, I'm gonna cause some serious damage to those quarter panels (on rock). But I guess even with the plastic pieces, they are as vulnerable as without them .

I like the 2nd picture. I would like to get a pair of those (in steel). Where do I get some?

EDIT: Jus re-read post #1. I can ask my welder guy about the price. It will depend on number of orders for him but for a pair I would think: ((hourly labor charge X number of hours) + steel cost + shipping (if applicable)).

rear bumpers without tire carriers are not that expensive...relatively speaking...

if it were me...I'd just bite the bullet and get a stout rear bumper.
