Rear Bumper Light power source? (1 Viewer)

I just finished my Coastal Offroad rear bumper this week and originally, I was going to tap the reverse light power from the tow plug. But, I think I would rather have these lights on a switch independent of the reverse lights. I was thinking I would put a swtich in the hole left by the rear suspension controls. What have you guys done for this?

I have a Coastal rear bumper also. I picked up a pair of “fog” clear light pods from harbor freight and wired to the trailer harness. It works great. The HF lights aren’t stupid bright so no one has yelled at me for blinding them yet. I had a 3-way switch on my old 80. Up was lights on, middle was off & down was lights w/reverse.

Did this need a relay? It didn’t back feed power? Would like to do this as well.

You can use a diode to prevent voltage from feeding back. Etrailer has some with two inputs and one output that would work great. You could wire one input to your backup lights and the other to power from your switch, which could either be constant power or accessory power depending on whether you want to be able to turn the lights on when your cruiser is off. It's a really easy solution for this application. Of course, you might still want to use a relay with a discrete power source from the battery if you're wiring high current draw lights, so you don't burn up your factory light wiring.

Perhaps, using 2 4-pin relay's and this diode, I could run fused power to both relays and from each relay to this diode on the input side. Then, the reverse lights can be the trigger for one relay and a switch in the cabin can be the trigger for the other?
