Rear Bumper Ideas?

Is there any way these could fit on an older LC? I know the newer LXs had/have them. I think removing the large hitch and replacing it with something like this would be cool.
I've thought about it too, but:
- I'm not sure if the bolt holes are there or not on my '98 LC.
- The frame hitch is very good 'armor' for keeping the OEM bumper cover attached to the car. I've 'slid' on the hitch many times when coming off a ledge especially through washes on the beach.
- My 33" spare is jammed up against the bumper cross member so I don't think the accessory insert will even fit.
- It's my main rear recovery/tow point w/a hitch shackle receiver.

So for now the frame hitch remains.

Since asking, I have been researching. Dropped my spare on my 98 and it looks like there are some holes through the crossmember that the OEM full hitch actually uses. I also have 33s and I think once the large hitch is removed, there would be enough room to fit this integrated hitch.
If I ended up doing this, I'd similarly trim the bumper as seen above.

03-05 do from what i have read (maybe just the LX?)
98-02 have 4 holes similar to what you see above, except the lower holes do not have captive nuts.
This thread seems to suggest that the newer hitch as imaged would work on an older truck. And it would be easy enough to toss a hitch shackle in one of these.

And one more for good measure. I found a picture of an earlier 100 series. It looks like it has the 4 bolt holes but no 2x2 cut in the middle. Unless cutting out the 2x2, a pintle style hitch would be the only other option.
My neighbor has an '04 LX with the integrated hitch, which I'm jealous of. I have an aftermarket hitch on my '01 and hate how it looks and how low it hangs. I was poking around today and see that I have the four welded nuts on the back of my rear cross member, but no 2x2 hole for the insert to go in and my bumper cover is solid. What gives? Was some accessory offered that would have bolted up to the rear bumper? Can the bumper cover be replaced with one with the cutout and a hole cut in the cross member?

You can see the top driver's side nut in this picture. There another below it and two more on the other side.

Here's someone else's picture showing the four bolt holes hidden under the bumper cover.

Are you talking about the pintle attachment point? I don't think that attachment point is rated for heavy towing.

I use this and tow anything the LX is capable of towing including a 21' grady-white center console and 416 trailer all over the country.

The rear crossmember of the 100's that can take the "in-bumper" hitch receiver is a much different design than the 98-02 rear crossmember. The 4 bolts holes you see on your 98 can take a pintle hitch though. The bolt pattern of the receiver in post #17 does not have the same spacing as the pintle mount/hook. In other words, you can't just cut a 2x2 square hole in your '98 and fit that in-bumper receiver.

If using a pintle mount/hook, personally, I would only use it for light towing and also not for anything that puts a lot of twisting strain on that rear crossmember, i.e. a motorcycle mount.

I know the cross member on my 99 LX has 4 holes on it.
Maybe we can fit something like this, with the proper distance between holes and length on the receiver. Any volunteer to fabricate?

Great. Thanks. Any idea the brand of your hitch/ball mount? Must have a shorter distance between the pin hole and the end to account for the spare.
