Hi All

Just looking for what opinions are on the spline wear on my rear axle shaft, how is excessive wear determined?

Cheers

I have no idea what might have caused that much spline wear, but I'll bet you have mega twist in that axle. We've twisted axels in our off road race vehicles over 360 degrees before they broke/snapped. We wouldn't start a race on an axle twisted more than 180 degrees, but we could carry that axel as a spare for replacement in the field to finish a race.

Lead foot?

Be curious of the horse power and tire size. A lot of on and off the gas pedal doesn't help. It keeps going from the transmission driving the wheels to the wheels driving transmission. The more play between the diff and axle the harder it smacks when the gas is applied.

It's a full resto truck I've never driven, so no idea of the history. I take it from these answers that it's a throw away?

The diff is standard 4:11

I'm worried about the receivers now

I would take a look at the spider gears and plan on replacing them as well.

Well I just had the diff done and I had two spares from the 60 donor car and he used a good set of spider gears out of the best of the 3 diffs I presented. From a bit of googling it seems one of the 60 axles (have those too!) will be OK and I just need to buy a new 40 one for the other side, so may not be too bad.

Thanks guys this is very helpful
