I got the parts from cruiseroutfitters today.

2 bearings
1 box of seal(s)...I didn't look inside yet, but now I'm guessing there should be two seals in there.

2 differential gaskets.

Since we'll be pulling the rear axles to get the diff out...won't I need a couple more gaskets that go behind the drums??

If you're replacing both rear wheel seals and bearings, then yes, you are missing a rear axle seal. One rear axle seal and bearing per side. There are no gaskets behind the rear drums, only the rear axle seals.

Are your rear wheel seals leaking? Why are you replacing the rear seals/bearings just to change a diff out?

I've been told that since I'll be in there, and the truck is 36 years old..that I should replace those bearings. What do you think??

In general I agree with that mentality. The parts aren't that expensive and any opportunity to replace very old bearings/seals reduces your chances of failure. My 2 cents.

It would be great to just get this thing rolling, rather than waiting until late April....but I'm inclined to do the job right and replace those old bearings. Plus, having a tech day on it would be fun and informative. I mean, we get to get the welder out....how cool! My neighbors will be so confused.

Hey Doug, what's gonna be welded? I thought this was just replacing parts!

Has there been a tech day scheduled on this? Without a press, R&R on the rear bearings is quite difficult. Machine shop time, or bfh time. The correct size pipe is fine for installing the new bearings. Who's R&Ring the bearings?

Yes, we sheduled a Tech Day for April 28th for this project. Sebastien is bringing his welder and John will be there to do the bearings. We are doing the rear diff, rear axle bearings and front output cone bearing. It should be a good time..

To be more clear....John ordered the SST for the bearings, the welder is just in case that doesn't work and we have to "put a bead" in the bearing race to get it out.

Am I behind the 8 ball, geezing, or has this been posted along with other upcoming event dates somewhere? I'd like to see the rear bearings done myself, never having done them.

It was scheduled at the last meeting but never (AFAICT) posted in the forum.

Hey John, I'll do that tonight.

There is two seals in each box ;)

That literally everything you need. There is one other paper gasket between the dust sheild and the axle shaft, but it only gets replaced when you are popping the studs out of your axleshaft, and even at that you don't really need the paper gasket. Your set... :D

Hey Kurt, thanks for the clarification. I'll call you tomorrow and order up the stuff for the front output bearing.
