My rear AC, which was so cold one day that my kids couldn't stand to have it turned on, would not blow at all on the next day.

Does the failure to blow air point toward a mechanical issue with a blower, mix door, etc, or could this be related to a problem with the metal lines? Just want to be as informed as I can before going to the mechanic.

Also, I've read that using specialty AC shops can be better in these cases than your regular trusted mechanic. Any wisdom in that?

Does the front blow cold still? If so I would say it's probably electrical because it's all one system as far as the compressor is concerned.

I don't have a direct answer but I can tell you what I've experienced with my '99 rear climate. When I turned on my front ac for the first time last week it blew warm when set to cold and hot when set to hot, same with the rear controls. I noticed the condenser fan wasn't turning on either but I think it was removed for later models so you don't have that. It did however point me in the direction of low freon because the compressor would engage still, so there always at last enough pressure left to allow that to happen. I filled the system back up and everything is working correctly now.

Front blows cold as ice. No issues there.

yeah, the placement of that thing is odd to say the least. before embarking on a trip i have to set it and then just turn on/off w/ the switch on the dash accordingly. then again, my kids are 3 & 7 and can't reach it to adjust and would end up screwing it up anyway.
