Hi guys, hoping someone can point me in the right direction before I rip apart the center console or go back to the dealership. The rear vents on the center console facing the second row don't blow any air. There is a very faint coolness to them, but air is definitely not being "blown". I have checked all the settings, vent flutes, etc. and the upper vents in the rear work fine. So, I assume there is some sort of blower mounted in the center console behind the coolbox that's malfunctioned?

Does anyone have any idea what could be wrong? Or an excerpt from a service manual as to where I should start digging? Is there any kind of diagnostics for the AC system?

Thanks!

I found in the 100-series forum that there's an "AC System diagnosis" procedure which can be initiated by holding down AUTO and FRESH/RECIRC while starting the vehicle. On the upper screen the codes 21, 24, 43 appear. Doing research on these now...

It appears codes 21 and 24 are normal as the vehicle isn't in the sun during testing. These are solar sensors for the Driver and Passenger sides. As for code 43, it either means "Air Outlet Door Position Sensor Circuit" or "Air Outlet Door Servomotor Circuit" whatever that means...

The workshop manual calls for using the intelligent tester (Techstream) to initiate an Active Test of the fan. In other words, you can turn the fan on "manually".

If that fails it goes into testing the A/C wiring itself which is a can-o-worms.

So dealership time or should I buy one of those Techstream cables on eBay and run an initial test?

Pretty much. Depending on the dealer you might be able to get it diagnosed cheaply. A local Toyota dealer near me will diagnose anything for $55, what you do with that info is up to you. Not sure if all dealers will do that.

Sometimes they'll just tell you you're dumb and fix it on the spot for free. Not saying I've had that happen before...
