What should I use to clean the starter up, I pulled it off and its preaty oily is carb leaner ok?? thanks for the help Is there anything I should know before I pull it apart, or is it fairly straight forward??

Clean up the outside? Carb cleaner is prolly OK.

What do you mean by "pull it apart?" Do you have a FSM? Are you replacing the contacts/plunger? (Good idea to do so BTW.)

No FSM yet, turns out if you want a shinny bare metal look carb cleaner does an excellent job of that,.Not to mention cleaning all the dirt and grease off. Yeah I wanted to check the contacts, and plunger cause the lc wouldn't start today not the first time it has just clicked been just click and clicking until it would start since I got it. Contacts shot.. one side is worn almost completely through the other has about 32nd worn plunger looks ok, but will probably replace it at the same time. Easy process to just change contacts and plunger one question how do you remove the one contact with the wire over the top it seems like the contact and the bolt are pressed together?

Good link, beaufort. I'm probably looking at doing the same thing soon.

I would use some kind of degreaser before I tried carb cleaner, maybe like some simple green or something used to clean outdoor grills. May want to get some good chassis black spray paint to repaint after you've stripped all the grease off.
