OK, I'm cleaning out my hubs and I cant' seem to loosen the wedge washers in the lock out(I think it's called) to the wheel. The hub is out and I just can't seem to get it. I have tried tapping it to loosen it, the sc r e wdriver on them and that didn't work either. Any suggestions? I await your responses.

I have always beat on the studs (using a brass drift to protect the threads) and they pop right out.

Some people advocate beating on the hub lockout body. I've also heard it mentioned that a small flathead screwdriver can be inserted into the gap in the cone washer, and pounded in - thereby expanding the cone washer and allowing it to slide cleanly off. Never done either of these, but I keep them in mind just in case beating on the stud doesn't work some day.

I have done all of that except using the drift. I will try that next. When I was using the scr ew driver the washers were chipping the corners so I stopped that. I put some pb blaster on them too so ... we'll see.

I figure if I can't be productive at work, I can at least get an assist for someone else's productivity in the shop. :D

Of course when I reassembled the darn thing I for got the lock washers on top of the cones, then forgot the c clip...doh

Anyway, I want to thank all the guys that make this forum go. From the big cruiser man, moderators and guys like e rock. It makes these jobs for half banana mechanics like me do able.
Rubithon here I come!!

I use a piece of pipe and a big hammer ,there is a certain place to put the pipe and at a certain angle and 2 to 4 waks and the 6 cone washers all come right out, then can be easily pulled with pliers.

Another easy way is to get a socket slightly larger than the clips, place it flush against the hub body around the clips, then one slight rap with a hammer on the top edge of the socket gets the job done with no fear of damaging the mounting studs.
