I have read all the threads I could.find on this but I CANNOT get the upper ball joint to press in. It started in crooked ans just won't go any farther.

Is there a trick to this?

Perhaps you need to get some hammer action (with wood or aluminum or brass) on the high side? Alternatively you could pry slightly up on the low side.

How are you pressing it in? What tools?

I'm using the rental press from advanced.

I ran into the same problem in December. I popped the crooked ball joint back out and stuck it in the freezer for a couple of hours. While it was chilling I lightly sanded the hole.

Right before taking the new UBJ out of the freezer I heated the hole with a torch. Pressing it in the second time around I was very careful to make sure it went in straight. Went in with absolutely no dramas!

Edit: I also used the press from Advance.

When I was doing it, my buddy wanted to just keep pressing even though it wasn't straight. I adjusted the press setup to get a nice, clean, and straight press. I think I found something else to space it a bit more and not interfere with the A-arm itself.

This link won't help you though because I used magic to get it in. (Skip to 8:45)

My issue is I can't get it back out. I had to cut the old stud short to make the tool fit to press it out .

I may have to remove the whole a arm

You can get it out without cutting the stud, just use a smaller diameter cup for the bottom.

Sometimes those kits just don't have all the right sizes needed. That was definitely the case for me and the Matco-branded tool kit I had.

Consider a luckily-sized impact socket or piece of pipe?

The Clarksonian method never fails to get you a result. It may not be the result you want, but it is a result nonetheless

Thanks for the replies. I ended up getting it. I just kept tightening and adjusting the angle of the push until finally it just slid right in no problem. I finally figured out the right combo of cups to get it to work.

I'm definitely using the freezer method for the other side.

So I am about to do this job on my 100. I had just done it on a F150 and it looked like it started a little crooked, then corrected itself when it finally seated. I just used my Air impact and full send.

That video is really well made and helpful! Keep up the good work!
