So one of my lovely children left a dome light on and I went to run errands this morning. Cruiser did the rur...rur...rur....clickclickclickclickclick.

I then noticed the dome light.

So then I pop the hood to put the battery charger on. HONK HONK HONK HONK....cruiser goes into some security freak out mode.

So I use the key to lock and unlock the doors and to no avail. Honking persistently.

So then I take off the negative battery terminal. I then put a nice charge on the battery, hook it back up. Nothing when I turn the key, no clicking, nothing.

So, then I try to use the 45 to jump it. I put the cables on, open the driver door - BACK INTO freak out HONK HONK HONK panic mode.

Ideas?

I think Slee's website has links to the manuals in the tech section. Not sure which model you have but I think he has both the old and new manuals.

One hint, unplug the horn until you can figure it out.

Believe it or not that is the way I bought my cruiser. The owner disabled the horn becuase he did have access to the manual to figure it out.

do you have the key fobs?
they will reset the alarm as well.

the alarm box has a reset button as well. not sure if that one will help at this point.

the fob should do it.

If you have a 96 the manual will work. The box is under the drivers side seat. You can see the button looking in from the side (I can't remember if it is a red or green button). Not sure if pushing it will reset. You'll have to get in the manual.

1. Nothing in the manual. There is a "theft-recovery labels" section. And there is an Anti-theft radio section.
2. There is nothing under the driver seat but wires to the motor.
3. There is nothing under the passenger's seat but the heater for the rear.

There are no buttons, nor any information in the manual or manual supplements.

I can get in, radio works, blowers work, HORN obviuosly works (although unplugged), will not start.

I have unhooked the battery, unplugged the ecu, everything. Upon trying to start it.....nothing.

turn the key to on not all the way to start then off then on then off the alarm is now reset per the tss alarm manual or use the remote oh yeah ya got 15seconds to do this after unlocking the door with the key as not to trip the alarm my guess is the igniton switch gets to much use anyone have one wear out??? use the remote

Have you tried jump-starting it since disconnecting the horn?

Regardless of any alarm issues, I don't think I'd trust the battery that's in there until you get this cleared up.

With info provided and seeing you dont have a fob I would consider the alarm system more of a pain than a feature. I would probably start looking at how to yard that thing out. Or at least find the head unit and get more details on what type it is, if not factory.

Doesn't the factory setup have a pretty identifiable button or LED indicator on the dashboard toward the driver side window?

Yes, on the LED indicator.

I just got off the phone with Toyota. It was combination of things.

1. Within 15 seconds insert key and turn to ON position. Then turn off, then back to ON.
2. Kill power to the anti-theft module.
3. plug the anti-theft module back in.
4. Start the car.
5. Whilst standing on 1 leg sing motley crue's shout at the devil.

That seemed to have worked.

Thanks all for the help!!

See ya - dallas

Thanks for the update and fix! handy knowledge.

Pull the fuze for the horn which is in the engine compartment, then pull the alarm switch back (this switch is in the by the foot well, by your left foot when driving). Then make sure everything is closed (windows, sunroof). Then press the key fob until you lock the car and replace the fuze.

For my 97, the brake light switch went bad and ran the battery down. If it happens again, I will do the following (after charging the battery):
1. Pop the hood and pull the horn fuse.
2. Remove the negative battery cable for 10 mins.
3. Open the driver side door, leave it open. Insert the key and turn to "on."
4. Re-connect the negative battery cable.
A. at this point you will notice the lights flashing and hear the relays indicating the alarm system is still active.
5. Turn the key off, then on, then off again then on.
6. Push the small red led button on the dash.
7. Cross fingers and try to start it.

Mine fired right up and the alarm system reset. I could be off a step or two in all the on/off/on/off.

8. Put the horn fuse back in.
