I'm bypassing an existing Clifford Intelligaurd 800IQ that was on my 97 when I purchased it a few weeks ago. I'm installing a simple lock/unlock remote and would like to know which wires coming out of the Clifford box are already connected to my vehicle's lock/unlock circuits. I'll then simply disconnect them and use them on my box.

I found a wiring diagram for the Clifford box, but the terminology is something probably an experienced installer will instantly know. There are 6 wires for the lock/unlock circuit labeled as follows:

white/orange (door unlock comm.)
Grey/green (door lock n.c)
red/orange (door unlock n.o.)
red/green (door lock n.o.)
grey/orange (door unlock n.c.)
white/green (door lock comm.)

What the heck do all these "n.o.", "n.c." and "comm" mean? I'm simply trying to figure out which ones go to the ground side of the lock switch so I can use them.

Thanks in advance!

N.O. means normally open, usually speaking of a relay or switch where it is not connected when it is relaxed or not powered

N.C. mean the opposite, normally closed, meaning it is connected when the switch is relaxed or not powered.

Common may mean ground if positive switched or if ground switched system may be a common "+" that feeds several devices.

but that does not get you anywhere does it,

do you have the EWD? it is almost a requirement for this kind of operation.

Thanks Raven. Yeah I have the EWD, but I was hoping to simply use the existing wire splicing. Have decided now to wire it directly my way after looking more closely at the Clifford install. It doesn't make sense to me, so it may be that some knowledgeable installer had it set up for the myriad fancy options that come with the Clifford and choosing his same wires may not get me the results. His wires were not connected as expected.

So, back to the garage - thanks all.

Thats probably a good idea, then you can rest assured it is done correctly. Raven did an excellent job on the explanation of that wiring, so no need for me to add anything, but if you get stuck on the new install give me a holler.

Scott, (or anybody good with electrics),

Could you PM me with a number so I could have a quick conversation? This applies to anyone with electrical skill and a factory manual. Thanks!
