My question is that ..
Will I benefit from re gearing my lc 200 after installing 17r/70/285 tires? Should I upgrade my differentials?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe you have the 4.6L V8 in Qatar? Less power than the 5.7L USDM cruisers, but also lighter.

A 285/70r17 is a 32.7" tire, which is a pretty mild 4% loss in gearing. I assume you're doing mostly sand running? In 2nd to 3rd gear?

I don't think re-gearing is really necessary as it's about putting down HP in the sand rather than it is about torque off the line.

Yes you are absolutely right ! We do have the 4.6 and mostly for sand running ...and
Yeah mostly 2nd and 3rd gear, because you have to keep momentum.

From what I understood, regarding re gearing it seems that it would help only in getting the car to move? Wouldn't it help in higher gears ?

Thanks

Depending on speed and rpm, the taller gearing could actually work to your advantage.

You can hold 2nd gear to a higher speed with the slightly taller tires.
But if you find yourself in 3rd, at lower engine speeds, re-gearing can help make 3rd more usable.

Sand is such an awesome thing to experience that we don't get enough of it here in the US. Tried several times in Superstition Mountain Sand Dam...unique and such a blast!

I would not just assume that regearing is an upgrade. It’s pretty rare for a factory Toyota diff to blow. I’ve had problems with a regear that died quite prematurely and I know that many others have too. And that was with a reputable gear shop doing the work.
Given the closeness of that tire size to stock I don’t think the cost and reduced reliability would pay off.

Sorry to hear. Curious if this was with OEM Yota parts or aftermarket gears?

Thanks for explaining, I am still happy with the preformance I get from the bigger tire, but yeah I was thinking about next upgrade or modification to do! But now it does not look like a wise investment to do, especially if not a lot of difference than factory ones....

Yeah sand and dunes are a different experience...if you planning to travel anywhere, just use Qatar airline and you could spend few days here, we could go dune bashing

Thanks, and sorry to hear about your problem.
I was considering it but I wanted to hear from you guys about it, so I could decide about my future update...just out of curiosity, was it nitro gear ?

It was not Nitro. The bearings were OEM but the gears were not. This was in a Tacoma so different but not entirely different.
