Forming a group to run the Green/Blues at Rauch Creek (North of Harrisburg, PA) on Monday 9/5 (Labor Day).:)

I would like to get started 9:00 and go until late afternoon (i.e. 4:00 - based on groups desire) with breaks and lunch in between.

These trails require that your rig be lifted (for addional clearance) and at least a front and rear recovery point. All skill levels are invited and encouraged to join the fun. Note that there is a possibility that the branches along the trails will give your rig a few surface scratches.

If you are game, please let me know so we can appropriately plan.

Just for clarification a guy and his son ran a stock 80 (very pretty rig) with e-lockers with us on green/blue trails last fall crawl with no damage and very little screeches from branches.
This sounds like a good trail ride.

Chris

I drive my 2000 4Runner up there with no lockers. You would only truely need lockers if you play in some of the rock garden sections or drive down into the bowl at Christy Lake. All the hard sections, be they blue, black or red have bypasses. My truck is lifted with 32's but no rock sliders so I have taken a few bypasses, but only a few. If you go with a group who is familiar with RC, you should not get into trouble. I have also used the technique of feathering the brakes to reduce wheel spin and it seems to help. You might have to back up and take a different cut now and then but a good, experienced spotter like Jakes40 makes all the difference.

Have fun. Several guys who have gone out with the CLCC group have gained a new appreciation of what their trucks can do with a stock configuration. You also have some great assistance if you get into trouble.

Did he use the lockers on the 80? Driving a 92, I don't gots em but would love to get up there sometime.

Josh,

If you would like to join in I think your 92 without lockers will do great! We will be sure to spot you through the tough spots. I have run the Blue/Greens at Rausch Creek three times. I only unsed my lockers once. I probably did not have to use them but I wanted to test them out. I have a winch and all of the ARB recovery gear so if you got your rig into a tough spot we have all of the resources we would need to get you out.

Please join in the fun if you are able to make it that day!

i am thinking about bringing the 100, got the armor, but never been there so a little worried. Its the only ride i got.

Josh, you should go! Roush creek is a good park with easy trails to get to and around the hard trails. Going with Pegusas you will see what your Toyota will do and get you out of trouble if you get in some. Just remember your Toyota was designed to go 4wheeling.

This will probably be one of your best opportunities to get a feel for the old girl when there is lots of help around. Just take off the running boards. You aren't likely going to break anything important on the Blue and Green trails unless you hammer the rig, and there is no need to do that unless you are Cam Beasley, Amateur Rock Racing Legend or Bob "Big Air" Bascome and have a reputation for carnage to uphold.

Very few of the trails have tight spots where you might skin a sapling or brush some branches. If you can breeze through a tight parking garage without mishap you should be good. Just take it easy and listen to your spotter, the biggest risk is rock rash on the mag wheels, cutting a corner too close, or failing to take into account the camber of the trail and leaning your rain gutter into a sapling because you were watching the trail. If you aren't lifted, then stay off the whoop dee doo trails (you can see which ones these are before you enter). If in doubt, get out and watch the others before you decide to bypass or go for it.

Above all, have fun!

Yukon,

Your rig is will do great on the trails. You will be blown away by what your modded 100 will do. Hope you can join in the fun.

I have a 12000lb rated winch, all of the ARB recovery equipment and an extreme high lift jack. I am fairly certain that we wont need any of it (been to Rauch three times and have not used any of it while there) however if we do then we will be fully prepared for a recovery.

Count me in . Ill be there. Sounds like a good time waiting to happen. Thanks for the pm's Pegusas

I'm in. The :princess: and the boy are coming too. Both are always up for a new adventure. Gonna ask a couple of buds if they are game, they roll a late model 4runner and a late model Tacoma.

Josh,

Glad you are coming - you will be blown away what your Model 80 can do. Your buds are more than welcome - the stock 4runner and Tocoma will also do great. Toyota has always done a phenonmenal job in making their trucks off-road ready!

The Rausch Creek Office opens at 8:00 AM:
453 Molleystown Rd
Tremont PA 17981

GPS Coordinates:
N40° 36.5074'
W76° 26.9170'
Phone: (570) 695-3900

Please arrive at 8:00 and do the following:
· Purchase your membership and or day pass and consider giving them a small donation for the air compressor so you can air up when we finish wheeling
· Tell front desk that you are with the PEGUSAS Group and give them your name and cell phone number
· Air down your tires to 18lbs of pressure – trust me you will have better traction, a smoother ride and less chance of cutting a tire on a rock/stump
· If you have a CB set it to channel 13
· If you have walky talkies set them to channel 13
· Make last trip to restroom
· If you have kids, give them a snack, change diaper – strap them in – they will have an absolute blast – better than any theme park
· Find me (Brian – AKA - PEGUSAS – White Toyota Land Cruiser) and tell me your name, cell phone number, 4-Wheeling skill level and what trails you want to do. The group is likely to be too large for us all to go together as one group so we will likely break the group into two groups:
o Beginner Level/Stock Vehicles (Green and some Blue Trails)
o Intermediate Level/Modified Vehicles (Lifted, Large A/T tires) (Green, Blue & some Black)
· Need a volunteer to lead either the Beginner Group or Intermediate Group. Please let me know if you would be willing to lead one of the groups.
· As we start wheeling be sure to put rig into 4Wheel Drive LOW to achieve optimal traction, effective down hill engine breaking and reduce load on your clutch/transmission/engine.

Trail Ride Schedule (approximate) (note that we must remain together or form new groups):
9:00 – Start Wheeling
11:00 – Bathroom and leg stretch break
1:00 – Bathroom/Lunch Break
3:30 – Bathroom/Leg Stretch Break
5:00 – Park Closes (if you need to leave early, please do so at one of the breaks so the group does not have to escort you back to the office to check out)

List of things you absolutely must have:
· Full Tank of Gas
· Plenty of water – to drink and in-case someone’s rig starts to overheat
· Beverages
· Food & Snacks
· Front and Rear Recovery Points on your rig
· Full Spare Tire
