Ok, this might be tough, but I'm going nuts. I have two irritating noises:

1) there is a clunk from the right front of the vehicle when I go over a bump. It doesn't even need to be a big bump; driving over the reflectors in the middle of the road at speed will make the clunk. The clunk happens with AND without the shock installed. I jacked up that corner and there is no slop in the wheel, in any direction.

2) when I slow to a stop there is a strange series of rattles from the rear of the truck: every time i stop the little symphony is exactly the same strange pattern. oddly, it does this with the clutch in, and the engine at idle, so its not a rpm-dependant rattle, its speed dependant. It is NOT the tire carrier, as it does it with the tire on or off, and with rubber wedged into the carrier to keep it tight. It is NOT the amby doors, as the weatherstrip is brand new, and I stuck foam inside the doors to quiet the control rods. I wedged rubber around the the exhaust hangers to try and change the noise, as well as put a video camera back there watching the muffler; the exhaust shakes, but not nearly fast enough to rattle as fast as my rattles are. All new shackle bushings. Also not from inside the truck, checked the tire iron, jump seats, etc etc etc. What the hell else is back there?!?!?!?!

!!

You ever figure out where the clunk was coming from in the front? My 1977 BJ40 is doing the same thing, going to look at the tie rods today.

I just about lost my mind looking for a noise....It ended up being the hood hinge pins were worn out...The front of the hood was nice and secure and the rear was bouncing up and down at the hinge pin on every bump.....

Yeah, I did, actually.

1) Was the hood hinges. Oddly its very hard to reproduce by poking and pushing on the hood, but I did verify that stuffing paper towels around the hinge will shut it up. Still need to get new ones.

2) Was the tub just barely making contact with the rear crossmember/bumper. It was such that, when I braked, the decceleration was enough to lift the tub to the point that it could vibrate against the bumper. I added a spacer to the body mount bushings to reset the proper gap and it went away.

Whoa, beat me to it. Common problem I guess!

Yep, me too. I'm using vacuum hose with a cut on one side to act as a buffer, which has helped but it is still there.

I put a clear zip tie diagonally around the hinge pin area...Are there bushings we can get or do we need all new hinges?
