Hey all, been a long time since I've been here. I've got an 85 FJ60 swapped in with a Chev 87 motor and the two speed Ranger torque splitter/OD.
The problem started with hints of noise down under quickly graduating to a pretty horrible screeching. With both the splitter and the transmission in neutral, upon pushing the clutch pedal to the floor, the screeching would stop . Oil capacity of the splitter is 2 qts and it had only 1qt left in it. (I know, my bad). Refilling it did no good.
I haven't torn into it yet to know for sure what's ruined (or even if it's in the Ranger) but my best scenario guess is the front main bearing or more.
Of course I've found that AA now no longer offers the Ranger and have few parts.
Does anyone here have any suggestions on sourcing parts or knowledgeable transmission shops?

Transmission shops might have parts that will work, but they will likely lean on AA for parts.
Personally, I'd get a new TR4050 and the appropriate adapter to your split case and run that.

I worked on a Ranger splitter around 25 years ago. It was the same problem, nobody did any maintenance to it.

I don't remember anything complex about it. Open it up if you want to DIY it or take it to a decent tranny shop that deals with stickshift stuff.

If you decide to go a different direction with the transmission. I would be interested in buying the splitter.

Turns out my fears of a great box problem were unfounded. It was simply the throwout bearing. Had never heard one that sounded like a prehistoric flying dinosaur! Of course it damaged the clutch too but with 80k + on it SOP should be to do the whole job while you got apart anyway. All is good.
