I find it hard to best the 3 big knobs of the early 100's for HVAC control. Big, quick, easy to change, easy to read. Everything else is a compromise.

Well, the old LX climate control may not be simpler by design but you could pretty much drive from AZ to AK and not touch the temperature control the entire time. Not so with the 3 knobs.

So, I'm probably just ignorant of how the other side lives
, but aren't the round dials just a different presentation of the LX's buttons? Doesn't the LC allow you to set temp and then put fan and outlet on 'auto' just like the LX's buttons? Are there really other functions that the LX adds?The only thing I do wish for is dual temp settings for my wife! At least she can keep her seat heat on!

Well, the LX will automatically switch to recirc mode if it detects bad outside air quality. Is that worth anything?

Hello All - been lurking here awhile and enjoying the board. I'm a former LX450 owner.
I'm starting my hunt for a LC and prefer the 5 speed (2003) but like others do not want the factory nav. From a hardware perspective it looks totally doable to remove the factory NAV but I think 1LoudLX mentioned the wiring harness is different.
Can anyone (1LoudLX) comment on the difference? if all the wires are in place but the connectors are different that's not much of a challenge. I could easily build adapters to bridge the devices.
I'm making the assumption that the HVAC control wiring is plugged into the MFD and would only need to be adapted to be plugged into a standard Controller, say the 2000 LX470 style.
I honestly will skip the 5 speed if this cannot be done - the factory Head unit is shall we say not good.
Any more thoughts?

If this is true, does the LX automatically recirc anytime you enter the state of CA?
This is coming from a born and bred native that CHOSE to leave.

Yup... CA probably has the worse overall air quality of all the US. Fortunately, my area is not too bad.

Agreed, confirmed and approved.
The big three you can find and adjust without looking. You can feel excactly where you put the selector/dial. On the newer ones you have to look to see what your doing, and to set the temp you actually have to read the display.
I have had both old style 100 and new style Nav... I'm just glad to have the best kick ass cooling system of anything I have owned.

Hoser - Take a quick jaunt south to the Central Valley and you will want to puke. The air quality around Fresno has gotten so bad that my sister now has to be on asthma meds and she doesn't have asthma. It is just the air quality.
On the tech side, if the cabin air filtration system is enough to filter that mess - my hat is off to the Toyota engineers who designed that!!

2000 UZJ switches from recirc to fresh based on setpoint temps, ambient temps, and settings. Same for the LX.
The "brains" behind the Full-Auto Climate Control in both are essentially the same. In the LX you get momentary switches (buttons) while in the LC you get rotary knobs that do the same thing.

Fresno could have the highest quality air in the world and I wouldve still moved out
sucks for your sister though. I'm sure there is a good reason why she's sticking around.
