I've got a Ramsey PTO (RHV-1) and the winch sitting on my garage floor. I'd like to install it on my '78 FJ40, which has the stock 4 speed. This Ramsey was made for the 3 speed.

A number of folks said in a few threads that adapting it to a 4 speed was a non-starter. But a few folks said they thought using an OEM PTO or an adaptor might work.

Anyone actually found a solution (that doesn't involve installing a 3 speed tranny) and installed this on their rig? If so, how'd you do it?

No reason a stock OEM wouldn't work with a Ramsey winch. I have FJ25 PTO powering a Ramsey winch. Just When make a driveshaft with OEM on one end and 4amseythe on the other. Probably easier then trying to find the correct parts to use theP59. Not Ramseys were installed on four speeds.

x2. I have the full Ramsey PTO winch setup in my 68 with 3 sp t/c, and I plan someday to replace the Ramsey PTO drive w/ Toyota because I prefer its design.

Find and install a suitable Toyota PTO, shorten the Ramsey PTO winch driveshaft, attach/adapt the Toyota PTO to the shortened driveshaft, and you are good to go.

Great--thanks. Beyond the OEM PTO gear box, anyone know of others that would work with a stock 4 speed?

I believe the Ramsey was made for the four speed but probably harder to find than a stock PTO. From late 63 until 7/80 Toyota used the same PTO for cruisers imported to the US. Unless you four speed has the PTO gear your going to have to find one. All three speeds with the ten spline tail shaft had one. Only a few four speeds with the sixteen spline had them. But not to hard to find. I have a few of them and never really try that hard to find one.
