I am trying to test the motor on my Ramsey Pro8000.I read to ground to housing, connect terminal A to F1 and power(+) to F2.When I do this I get nothing but a few sparks. The solenoids are completely disconnected and I am just giving juice to the motor.Am I going at this wrong?Any advice please.I was told the motor was good,but....Thanks
I've never had a Ramsey. I'd almost bet that it's hooked up wrong. The way it is may be just grounding your hot through the winch, causing the sparks you're getting?
Hot should go to the far left terminal that's by itself, then ground through either of the two closer terminals that you have your hot lead on one of now, depending on whether you want Out or In.
What you describe is the proper way to test a series wound motor that has 2 field (F) terminals and one armature (A) terminal. You could try reversing it by applying power to F1 and connecting A and F2, but if it won't run in either direction and it sparks, it is probably siezed and it needs a peek inside. Just to be sure, I would move the ground connection to the motor case.
