Has anyone removed their rain gutter trim? The trim on my 80 is all bent up and flattened from various rack mounts, mine and the PO's. I think the gutter itself may be bent under the trim, and I want to see if any cracking or rusting has developed.

I also don't like the loud chrome, especially now that it's so beat up.

Thanks,

David

trim on mine is black plastic...

Mine was aluminum, and all bent as heck, so I just took it off. Works just as well without it, and actually allows better roof rack attachment.

How'd it look up front? I thought about removing mine, but I stopped when I saw how it was attached in the front -- looked like it was integrated into the A-pillar.

The moulding will "peel" right off, all the way to the base of the windshield pillar. There is a "seam" where the drip rails butt togther that is right above the rear side door openings. That part is kind of ugly but the whole drip rail is body color under the moulding.

Thanks Hilltopper. Do you recall if it was a "crimp" attachment, or is it glued on?

The trim on my LX is black plastic, and if I recall correctly (I'm in Queensland, it is in California) is smaller and has a bit more of a rubberized "give" and "flex" to it, and doesn't seem to get in the way or bend with rack mounts.

David,

You remember correctly.

All US 80's & 450's have black drip rail mouldings. Some models in other markets have the bright ones. We do not have a chance to see them in person and I would not be surprised if they are "stiffer" than the ones we see here.

Thank you again for the scans of your owner's manual re the sub tank.

--Thanks Dan. I just hope the color is still there!

----No worries (practicing my Australian).

I wonder if the mouldings were not factory installed?

I'd be glad to mail you a sample cross section once I get mine off of the truck.

Report on Removed Chrome Trim

By the way I finally (with the help of my two year old) pulled the chrome trim off of my raingutters. Yes, there was body color paint under there which cleaned up nicely, under years of disintegrating leaves and dirt.

I did find cracks in the "bed" of the gutter itself, mostly at the places where the previous ovner's heavy safari rack's center legs had been attached. However, on closer inspection, I discovered that the bed is coated with a putty (feels like the caulk used between swimming pool coping tiles) prior to painting; I don't think any rust is imminent...

Al in all the truck looks better without the trim, and it feels better to not have the leaves and dirt collecting up there.

I'm sure it's faster too :)

Not sure I want to know, but Cdan - what's the keen consumer price on those black US moldings? One of mine's kinda whacked from my roof rack gutter clamps.

Now mine are black with a chrome stripe in them which looks like someone took a knife and scraped off the black all along the moulding in a line on both sides. Is this normal or do I have magic moulding?

Also I reiterate Doug's question.

Derek, yours are falling apart.

They are not very expensive considering what they fit and how long they are. The current suggested list price is $58.56 each. The killer is shipping them as they require a HUGE box and the freight is double the cost of the part.

Any chance you have part numbers for the black moldings as found on a 97 LX?

Wow, a bump on a 14-year-old thread.

75551-60020 and 75552-60020. An interesting observation about price. They have doubled.

@bonestock probably cheaper to drive down to Atlanta and pick up mine i took off. I can throw in some running boards too...all free
