Hi all, I heard that GREEN coolant color is for Iron engine blocks and heads, and RED coolant color is for Illuminum heads such as the new Landcruisers EFI4500, is that true? I'am also not sure of Orange coolant color, I owned a 1997 Camaro SS that had an orange color coolant?

I have a 1988 FJ62 with a 3F Engine (Carburated) and Auto tranny, do any one know what kind of coolant is for my engine? Plaese advise me if you know?

Thanks:cheers:

look for "low silicates" on the label of any brand.

The color is, basically, just that.

I do know, the 'long life' A-Freeze is typically red...

if you're in a jamb, any a-freeze will get ya around.

Radiator Coolant

Thank you Waggoner5 and Soggy60, I've been told by some people that RED color coolant detoriorate hoses faster. Is that true?

Plus, making the Iron Block and Head runs hotter. This is really confusing. Deos the FJ62 comes with a Green color coolant from the factory or Red. I had my FJ62 new from the factory but I can not remember was it green or red?

I recently rebuilt the engine totaly and want the right coolant.

Thanks,

Everything I read said that the newer "red" long-life coolant wasn't implemented until the mid 90s so most likely yours didn't come with red; just the green stuff. Unless there was some kind of fluke, I would say it came factory with the green stuff. I can reference the material I read if you want me to.

I think I will go GREEN

Thank you all, I think I'am going to go with the Green Coolant:bounce: .

The cost is no problem I allready had the RED coolant but one guy told me RED is not appropriate for Iron Blocks such as the 3F on my FJ62 thats what made me confused. The people at the garege do not care so anything will do for them, the only thing they want is to finish the job.

A color is only a color, I understand. But does any one knows what makes a coolant different than the other or more appropriate for one engine than the other.

Does any of the coolant components make more heat than the other, since the old 60 / 62 series produce alote of heat.

Have a nice day:bounce: :bounce2:

Thats it I think I will drain the RED stuff and use the old GREEN stuff before I use the Truck.

It is really important to know these small details that most people do not care about, but I think it makes a diffirence to go all the way and understand the details.

Be sure to flush ALL the old coolant out, 'cause the different types mix poorly, can create radiator clogs when mixed. Ask me how I know...

The PO put red Toyo antifreeze in my 84 60. It's been in there 4 years (20K miles) no problems, no concerns that there will be any. Yeah I might go back to green when I next flush it...only reason is the availablity hitch.

You supposed to use coolant thats the same color as your cruiser:D

No seriously the red stuff from the dealer is unbeatable ,regardless of you cruiser color;)

yeah, toyota's brand of red coolant is really pricey compared to other brands, but you can't go wrong using it; had people swear (including some mechanics ) that "it lasts forever"

Only reason I'd go back green is that I've got 4 other cars..all use green. Just to keep things simple. Like I said the Red has been fine...If when I drian and flush after 4 years of red and there is little or no rust/corrosion flushed out or on the thermostat, i'll definatly stay with the red. I'll post up when I get to that point.

JON
