I have accidentally run my HZJ78 -01 with a low oil volume in gearbox.
Clumsy error when it seems to be so common fail that the oil flows over to the transferbox i know...

Have not noticed that it was leaking before, but I must have checked the level to rarely.

It was about a half litre oil left, an now after a few rapid oil changes it is problem changing to third gear sometimes.
If i change gears distinct and carefuly it seams to work fine.

Is it possible to tell what i need to replace in gearbox? at least i think i need the bearing kit?

Unfortunately, the car is rare here and I think it's hard to find a used or reconditioned gearbox.

Grateful for any help, I feel so sad that I have abused my darling

They are relatively simple to rebuild and it would be a good idea to get the synchro rings as well.

Roodogs is very easy to deal with if you contact them directly.

I've rebuilt one, it's not too hard. I think you'll have to wait to get it open if you want to be sure on the syncros, they're kinda expensive to replace. There's one big bearing in the middle of the main plate that probably needs to be replaced now. Marlin sells a stiffer retainer for this bearing, might be worth the upgrade, I went for it.

Hi, i bought syncro rings and bearings from Roodogs.
Niel was very helpful and i received the parts one week after i ordered(:

Yesterday i removed the gearbox and a friend are going to help me fix it...
I did not know you had to remove the transfer box to access the gear box and my friend hade problems with this gear.

Do we need a special puller to remove it?

Is there any good rebuilt guide online for this gearbox?

Do we need a special puller to remove it?

Just normal pullers,if there is a thread inside those 2 holes you could use them.Otherwise, the type of puller that can get behind the gear will do,preferably one with 3 arms.

The best place to find an online rebuild guide, maybe on youtube or on 70scool forum

Now I have tried to refurbish the gearbox, I think the main problem was that the fork to 3-4 became worn out when I ran with low oil volume.

But I changed the bearings, seals, syncro rings and bought a stronger fifth gear kit from Roodogs.

Now when I built up the gearbox must be due to an error, fourth gear jumps out when I put it in sometimes.

Now I do not know if I should give up or what to do:bang:

Can I use a R151F from a Hilux?

HZJs are rare here but the Hilux is quite common
