quick stop/start - grinding **resolved**

Just starting today I experience a "grinding" in the drive-train if I come to a stop and then start again quickly. The car lurches forward but is sounds as if the drive train is just partially engaged. Back off the gas for a second and then press down again and it goes. Once it catches is goes just fine. The transmission shifts very smoothly in every other scenario including a complete stop when you sit for a few seconds and then engage in a start. My wife said that the "active trac" light came on for just a second one of the times that it happened. I dropped it off at a local transmission shop this evening and am praying for something easy and inexpensive. Any ideas?

So much for making assumptions. Ends up that it had nothing to do with power-train (whew) but actually the ABS system. The front right speed sensor is broke which was causing the ABS system to engage. It's going to run about $750 at a local mechanic to take a part the wheel, replace the sensor, and repack but am glad that it wasn't something with the transmission or overall drive-train.
